Our special guest:
Born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, California, Jeff Stewart developed a deep love for skiing. However, a summer trip to France and the influence of an enthusiastic chemistry teacher led him down a different path—winemaking.
“My summer in France was my first experience with wine as an integral part of the family meal. I was fascinated by the lifestyle and the cultural significance of wine,” says Hartford Family Winemaker and General Manager, Jeff Stewart. “I knew I wanted to pursue a career in science, and after several conversations with my high school chemistry teacher, I soon enrolled in the Viticulture and Enology program at UC Davis. The idea of blending agriculture, science, and creativity to craft something celebrated for thousands of years was mesmerizing.”
A UC Davis graduate with a degree in fermentation science, viticulture, and enology, Jeff has been making Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Old Vine Zinfandel in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma County for over 25 years. He began his journey in the early 1990s, working alongside some of the pioneering winemakers who helped define the region. Today, as Director of Winemaking and General Manager at Hartford Court, he continues to craft expressive, site-driven wines that showcase the character of their unique vineyard sources.
